Latvian Army Day and 101 Anniversary of Latvian Independence in BALTDEFCOL

It has been busy times here at BALTDEFCOL. Though our main task is providing military education, we find it important to note and commemorate the important days of our colleagues, allies and friends. Thus, last 11 November was noted multiple commemoration events and birthday celebrations. The Baltic Defence College was celebrating and taking part of Lāčplēša Diena (Latvian Army Day) commemoration events. However, for the English-speaking world, Monday, November 11 is Remembrance Day, (Armistice Day) and one could see several poppies worn in the building. Some of our closest colleagues celebrated Polish National Independence Day and 11 November also marked the birthday of Estonian Defence League.

Visit of BG Lennie Fredskov Hansen, Chief of Staff Multinational Division North

On 14th November, BG Lennie Fredskov Hansen,  Chief of Staff Multinational Division North, visited the Baltic Defence College. 

Besides an office call and an introduction into BALTDEFCOL's activites, BG Hansen  kindly accepted the invitation to attend also the reception on the occasion of LVA Army 100th Anniversary and LVA 101st proclamation Anniversary.

Visit of MG Jeff Drushal, Commanding General of U.S. Army Security Assistance Command

On 6th of November 2019, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted a visit by MG Jeff Drushal, Commander of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command. MG Drushal was welcomed by COL Jean Trudel and members of the College Management Group. The purpose of the visit was to engage BALTDEFCOL senior leaders, U.S. instructors, and students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC).

Visit of Estonian School of Diplomacy Delegation

On the last day of October, the Baltic Defence College hosted students and colleagues from the Estonian School of Diplomacy.

EUCOM Capability Enhancement Regional Symposium

From 29th to 31st of October 2019, the Baltic Defense College (BALTDEFCOL) and the Estonian Military Academy (EMA) hosted the U.S. European Command’s (EUCOM) Capability Enhancement Regional Symposium (CERES) in Tartu, Estonia. Organised by the EUCOM J5, the CERES is a multi-lateral forum where a number of NATO Allies and key partners (39 representatives from the US, UK, DEU, CAN, EST, LVA, LTU, POL, SWE and FIN) gather to share regional situational awareness / visibility on nations' bi-lateral activities with Baltic states and Poland.

“In Memoriam”

On 23rd of October 2019, the Lithuanian students from the Joint Command and General Staff Course at the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) organised the fifth annual “IN MEMORIAM” charity run to remember and support the families of passed-away Lithuanian soldiers.

Baltic Defence Study Trip 2019

From 13th to 16th of October 2019, the students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) are visiting the capitals of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as part of the Baltic Defence Study Trip (BDST). This visit is an integral and important part of the course curriculum, providing the students an opportunity to stay connected to realities of regional security and defence matters.
