Visit by the former Chairman of the European Union Military Committee Gen (ret.) Patrick de Rousiers

On 27th March Baltic Defence College was honoured by the visit of Gen (ret.) Patrick de Rousiers, Special Adviser to the EU Foreign Minister Mrs Frederica Mogherini. In years 2012-2015 he was a Chairman of the European Union Military Committee. General de Rousiers participated in an office call with Major General Andis Dilans, Commandant of the College followed by a lecture for students of the Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC).

Annual Baltic Military History Conference 2017

The Baltic Defence College hosted the 2017 Annual Baltic Military History Conference on 24th March. This year’s conference coincided with the centenary of the Russian Revolution, and the theme was ‘From Narva to NATO: 100 Years of Russia versus the West, 1917-2017’. The presentations covered a broad chronological and geographic timeframe, including the Baltic independence wars, the Eastern Front of the Second World War, various theatres of the Cold War, and the more recent events related to Russia’s revisionist policies.

Visit by Mr Ivan Rusnak, First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine

On 22nd March 2017 the Baltic Defence College hosted a working visit of Mr. Ivan Rusnak, First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine. He was accompanied by COL Valerii Dobrogurskyi, Deputy Commandant of the National Defence University of Ukraine and COL Olexander Koberskyi, Defence Attaché of Ukraine to Estonia. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Ingvar Arst from the International Cooperation Department of Estonian Ministry of Defence.

2017 Baltic Military History Conference: ‘From Narva to NATO: 100 years of Russia versus the West, 1917-2017’ takes place on 24th March

Baltic Defence College’s Military History Conference will take place on 24 March 2017. The 2017 edition of our annual conference coincides with the anniversary of the Russian Revolution, and therefore, it will focus on how the Western Powers’ past experiences in dealing with the Russian challenge can offer a guideline to develop a viable defence policy for the wider Baltic region.

The Baltic Defence College was honoured on 13th March by a visit from H.E. Ms. Claudia Delmas-Scherer, the Ambassador of France to Estonia, accompanied by Vice Admiral Charles-Édouard de Coriolis, the French Military Representative to NATO and European Union Military Committee, and Lieutenant Colonel Jean-Luc Lopez, Defence Attaché of France to Estonia.
