Honorary Fellows of the Baltic Defence College

On 16th February the Commandant of the BALTDEFCOL, Major General Andis Dilāns recognised Professor Žaneta Ozoliņa and Mr. Tomas Jermalavičius as Honorary Fellows of the Baltic Defence College. The title was to recognise their outstanding involvement in the college’s development and very valuable support for education of future military and civilian leaders from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and many other nations.

Professor Ozoliņa and Mr. Jermalavičius have contributed to faculty development and have provided lectures within all the BALTDEFCOL courses. Their expertise is well known not only within educational institutions, but also within a wider security community as they are contributing constantly to enriching defence and security domains in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and beyond.

A Honorary Fellowship is a highly prestigious award bestowed annually to distinguished individuals who have made either an outstanding personal input to the development of the Baltic Defence College or those who have contributed significantly to the improvement of the defence and security culture of the Baltic States.

Professor Žaneta Ozoliņa is the professor of the Department of Political Science in University of Latvia and the Chair of Foreign Affairs Council at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She is the member of the Editorial Board of the BALTDEFCOL’s publication Journal on Baltic Security.

Mr. Tomas Jermalavičius was a deputy director of the College’s Institute of Defence Studies in 2001-2004, and the dean of the College in 2005-2008. Currently he is a Research Fellow and Head of Studies at the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS) in Tallinn.
