Visit by Professor Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu

On the 26th of October, Professor Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu (UT), our strategic partner, paid a visit to the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). He was accompanied by Ms Olga Bogdanova, the Deputy Head for Academic Affairs, Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies.

Prof Asser was welcomed by Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, Brigadier General Ilmar Tamm, and Dean, Col (ret) Dr hab Zdzislaw Sliwa. The aim of the visit was to gain insight into the College’s mission and activities, discuss areas of future cooperation, and exchange knowledge in specific areas of expertise. The discussion was constructive, recognizing that both institutions could contribute to each other in particular areas of expertise. Rector and Commandant agreed that cooperation is valuable for both and should be continued and extended in the future based on a better mutual understanding of the spectrum of educational and academic activities.

Professor Asser began his tenure as the Rector of the University of Tartu on the 1st of August 2018 after being elected by the electoral council.
