16th International Night of the Baltic Defence College

On 10th June, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) conducted its traditional International Night event. BALTDEFCOL’s staff members, students, and their families together with invited guests gathered in order to promote the culture and traditions of the participating Nations, and strengthen personal relations. The Academic Year 2020/2021 was marked by different restrictions related to COVID-19, therefore the International Night was the only joint activity for all the members of BALTDEFCOL. It was highly anticipated and appreciated, especially ahead of completing all the courses.

This year, this family event took place outdoor. Food, music, performances, and kids program composed it like a real summer festival, and of course, the amazing weather fully supported the enjoyment. Twelve nations offered their traditional food and drinks. No International Night event will pass without an Estonian sprat sandwich, Latvian cheese, or Lithuanian tree cake “Šakotis”.

The fundraiser by BALTSPOUSES is the traditional part of the International Night. This year, an astonishing 1250 euros were donated to the Cancer Foundation (Vähiravifond “Kingitud Elu”), as by tradition the fundraising activity supports yearly one of the charitable organization. During the past years, BALTDEFCOL has supported such organizations as the Association of Disabled Children, the Youth and their Parents, the Tartu Christian Adolescent Home (twice), and the Tartu Children's Shelter.

Framework Nations – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania – had prepared national performances including singing, dancing, video presentation, and one of our Joint Command and General Staff Course students from Latvia took care of the musical part.

Baltic Defence College thanks to the students and staff members of BALTDEFCOL, BALTSPOUSES, all guests as well as performers for their great effort to make such an enjoyable and entertaining evening. Having fun and involving family members is one of our values described in the Code of Conduct. See you next year!
