Visit by Ambassador of Sweden to Estonia H.E. Ms. Ingrid Tersman
Today, on 16th February the Baltic Defence College (BALTDFECOL) had the honour
to host the Ambassador of Sweden to Estonia H.E. Ms. Ingrid Tersman
accompanied by the Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Jörgen Westerlund.
Ambassador Tersman was appointed in 2019 but it was her first visit to
BALTDEFCOL.
The high level delegation was welcomed by the Commandant Brigadier General
Ilmar Tamm, Deputy Commandant/Chief of Staff Colonel Dietmar Hartung, and Dean
Colonel (ret) Dr. Zdzislaw Sliwa.
The programme continued with a briefing session where Ambassador received a
general overview of the historical background, mission, and tasks of the
College and learned about the various courses and related activities conducted
at the BALTDEFCOL. The Ambassador has been familiar with the Baltic Defence
College and she was directly involved in the establishment of BALTDEFCOL as
the Professional Military Education institution at the end of 1990s. The very
interactive discussion during the visit was focused on the regional
educational and research role of BALTDEFCOL as the contributor for shaping
future military and civilian leaders. Another topic was cooperation and
exchange of experiences between the College and the Swedish Defence University
along with Swedish contribution to education and academic projects. The
Ambassador and the Defence Attaché expressed their appreciation of the
development of the new courses and expanding the international reach.
The Ambassador had an opportunity to discuss the education delivered within
Joint Command and General Staff Course with the Swedish officer, who is the
JCGSC student during the current Academic Year.
Since its establishment, BALTDEFCOL has had 15 Faculty members and 21 students
from Sweden.
