College Structure


Department of Political and Strategic Studies

The Department of Political and Strategic Studies (DPS) faculty teach all courses at the BALTDEFCOL and has an active research output, with several of its scholars attending academic conferences and partaking in strategy formulation at the national and European levels.

In particular, the department is responsible for teaching Critical Thinking and Communication, International Security, International Law and several electives on the Joint Command and General Staff Course and Civil Servants Course, as well as all of the strategic-level modules for the Higher Command Studies Course and some components of the Master's Degree.

The department also works with the Civil Servants Course and the Senior Leaders’ Course.

The faculty members have been published widely in international relations, international security, European and Baltic security, strategic affairs, military issues, armed conflict, international law and international history.

Department of Military Studies

The Department of Military Studies (DMS) is the largest in the BALTDEFCOL, made up primarily of military officers (active and retired) with subject-matter expertise.

The faculty members have subject-matter expertise in military strategy, military art, joint operations, special operations, land power, airpower, maritime power, and military history.

In particular, the department is responsible for teaching combined joint operations and associated electives in the Joint Command and General Staff Course and Civil Servants Course.

Moreover, DMS oversees the BALTDEFCOL's military exercises programme and the international study tour. The BALTDEFCOL remains committed to playing a critical role in the ongoing robust debate about security and defence issues in the ‘Wider Baltic’ region. We wish to ensure our future publications will continue to play a vital part in this debate.


Department of Leadership and Management

The Department of Leadership and Management (DLM) comprises military officers with subject-matter expertise in leadership and defence management.

It teaches mainly on the Joint Command and General Staff Course and the Civil Servants Course and takes responsibility for inspiring leadership skills in students. It also teaches for the Master's Degree.

In particular, the department is responsible for teaching Defence Management and Leadership in the Joint Command and General Staff Course and Civil Servants Course.

Department of Support

The Department of Support is dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of BALTDEFCOL's educational activities and events.

Our mission is to provide real-life support to all college functions. Key tasks include document handling and administration, technical and logistical support for daily processes, maintenance and modernization of equipment, budget execution and accountancy, and fostering a high-quality study and work environment.

Our team is committed to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the college, ensuring a productive and conducive atmosphere for learning and growth.
