We are looking for a qualified and professional person to develop, plan, co-ordinate and deliver modules and electives and supervise student research papers within courses at the Baltic Defence College in the area of “Lecturer in Eastern European and Russian Studies”. This person will educate military staff officers and selected civil servants of NATO/EU nations and PfP countries and contribute to their professional development. His or her contribution to our research and conduct of conferences, roundtables and seminars will be appreciated.
As the position entails largely the coordination of the educational activities, we are looking for a person with strong organizational skills, capable of functioning effectively in a diverse, multinational community, possessing exceptional ability to work in a team and communicate with others in a mixed military-civilian environment. Due to the composition of the student body at the college, we expect a person selected for this position to have a strong commitment to adult learning philosophy and show ability to use it. The ability to use innovative teaching methods would also be considered an asset.

I MAIN DUTIES
- Develops and teaches modules, electives and/or classes to students of all courses in the area of Eastern European and Russian Studies.
- Acts as a source of expertise in the area of Eastern European and Russian Studies to BALTDEFCOL staff and students in the execution of their tasks and assignments.
- Participates in the supervision and assessment of academic assignments given to students.
- Undertakes research, particularly applied research, relating to his/her field of expertise.
- Convenes the Baltic Defence College’s Annual Conference on Russia.
II OTHER DUTIES
- Contributes to academic events of BALTDEFCOL (e.g. conferences, seminars, round tables) within the area of expertise.
- Assists with editing BALTDEFCOL publications (i.e. Journal on Baltic Security) within his/her field of expertise.
- Represents BALTDEFCOL at external activities (e.g. conferences, seminars, courses) related to the field of expertise.
- Networks with relevant educational and research institutions.
III QUALIFICATIONS
1. Essential qualifications:
- Advanced academic degree in Russian Studies, Eastern European Studies or related field;
- Expertise regarding Russia, especially Russian history, politics and foreign policy, and countries in Eastern Europe;
- Experience in delivering teaching in an academic environment, particularly applied knowledge;
- Experience in conducting research in the fields of relevance to the position;
- Language: English (Proficient User: C1 or a comparable language performance profile) and Russian (Independent User: B2 or a comparable language performance profile).
2. Desirable qualifications:
- A doctoral degree;
- Experience of working and co-operating in a military environment;
- Experience of convening and coordinating academic events;
- Eloquence in communicating his/her thoughts and ideas to a critical audience;
- Flexibility, creativity, dynamism and a result-oriented approach to duties;
- Ability both to act as a part of a team and pursue individual initiatives and tasks.
