On 14th June, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) family members gathered in Conference Room to recognize some of the staff members for their excellent service and dedication or whose work has considerably contributed to the development of the College during the Academic Year 2021-2022.
The Commandant, Brigadier General Ilmar Tamm during his opening remarks highlighted that for the third year in a row, we have faced new challenges. Previously, the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the College a lot; however, despite those challenges the faculty delivered high-quality education during these times although it was demanding asking for the exceptional effort of the whole Staff. This year, we saw how Russia invaded Ukraine, which impacted the focus of some educational activities. Among others, BALTDEFCOL redesigned the concept and emphasis of the annual Conference on Russia. However, despite the challenges, BALTDEFCOL has evolved, and the curricula of the core courses have been adjusted.
The Higher Command Studies Course adopted a revised focus of some modules to reflect the shifts within the global security environment. For the second time, the Combined Joint Staff Exercise “Joint Resolve” was conducted in Poland in cooperation with the War Studies University. The Command Senior Enlisted Leaders’ Course (CSELC) has been recognized officially as one of BALTDEFCOL’s core courses from 2022. The Civil Servants’ Course will start with a new and revised curriculum in the following Academic Year. In addition, to increase awareness and transparency, College has approved the Communication Policy, which supports the implementation of BALTDEFCOL’s vision and mission as agreed by the Framework Nations.
During the Staff Meeting, the Commandant thanked every single member of the College for this successful year. Some members were awarded different decorations to highlight their role and contribution during the ending Academic Year.
For the third year, the Best Staff Member of the Year was recognized by the College family members, and this honorable title was dedicated to MSGT Eero Naudi. His personal abilities, contribution to the College, and support for each person presented most of BALTDEFCOL’s Values of Respect, Openness, and Responsibility, along with social aspects as per our Code of Conduct.
The meeting was also an opportunity to pay respect to those staff members who are leaving the College after completing their duties. All departing members received a graphic picture of the College to remind their service here in Tartu. It is always sad to say goodbye but like family members, they are always expected to come back.
The concluding events of the Academic Year 2021/2022 will continue with the Joint Graduation Ceremony of the Higher Command and Studies Course and the Joint Command and General Staff Course on the 16th of June.
