On Monday, 10th April 2017, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted a Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Major General Leonīds Kalniņš, Chief of Defence of Latvia, was inducted as the seventh member of the BALTDEFCOL's Hall of Fame. MG Kalniņš graduated from the Higher Command Studies Course in 2013 (HCSC) and participated in first Senior Leaders’ Course (SLC) in 2015. He became the Chief of Defence of the Latvian National Armed Forces on 27th January 2017.
The induction ceremony was honoured by the attendance of Brigadier General Martin Herem, Chief of Staff of Estonian Defence Forces and Mr Saulius Gasiūnas, Defence Policy Director of Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania.
The Hall of Fame was established in 2016 to honour graduates who have distinguished themselves in their military and/or civilian careers and reached high-level positions.
The induction ceremony was followed by the panel discussion from the inductee, BG Herem and Mr Gasiūnas on “National Defence Developments” in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuanian as part of the HCSC 2017 curriculum and ongoing educational modules. During the discussion, BALTDEFCOL faculty participated along with students of the HCSC.
