On the 2nd August 2017, the Commandant of Baltic Defence College Major General Andis Dilāns (Latvian Army) together with his Deputy and Chief of Staff Colonel Jean Trudel (Canadian Army) and the Senior Estonian National Representative Commander Ivo Värk (Estonian Navy) had the honour to host Minister of Defence of Estonia Mr Jüri Luik, while the Minister was on his working visit to South-Estonia accompanied by Deputy Commander of Estonian Defence Forces Brigadier General Indrek Sirel (Estonian Army).
During the meeting with Mr Jüri Luik Major General Andis Dilāns thanked Estonia for the invaluable host nation support provided, briefed the Minister on the latest educational developments in the College and its future perspectives and informed him about the needs of the College for ensuring efficient educational process. The Commandant used the opportunity to update the Minister on various initiatives that would lead to closer cooperation with NATO and the EU.
Taking into account that the College is very successfully organizing conferences and involving more and more participants, including integrated participation of its students, the Minister was informed about the Annual Conference of Russia, which will be organized in Tartu from the 8th to 9th March 2018.
Undoubtedly, in order to keep on improving the conditions of the educational environment in the College and to set the conditions for the College to become a recognized premier learning institution, the Commandant highlighted opportunities aiming to improve the infrastructure.
All in all, discussions were aimed at outlining prospective ways of cooperation and continuing the same excellent mutual partnership. In order to continue the discussion and to get acquainted with BALTDEFCOL closer, the Minister expressed a wish to visit the College in near future.
