Estonian National Defence Committee visits the College
The Estonian National Defence Committee visited the Baltic Defence College on 14th April 2016. Previously the college had the honour to welcome the committee in October 2011. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the members of the committee with the college, its responsibilities, activities and developments. During the meeting, the Commandant together with college Management Group members briefed the committee on BALTDEFCOL’s history, vision, mission, strategic goals and lines of effort, as well as its place and role in the professional military education system.
‘The Baltic Defence College serves as a professional military education institution at the operational and strategic level, applying up to date educational principles, effective management and best use of intellectual and material resources,’ said the Commandant of the college, ‘and Estonia as one of the ‘owner nations’ and the college’s host nation is providing an excellent support.’
‘The National Defence Committee is one of the standing committees of the Riigikogu that was re-established on the basis of the Resolution of the Supreme Council on 4 April 1990, and the Resolution of the Riigikogu on 7 October 1992. The National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu conducts as leading committee the proceeding of draft acts regulating national security and defence, exercises civilian supervision over the national structures of power and participates in the shaping of national security and defence policy.’ (Source: www.riigikogu.ee)
