Exercise Joint Resolve 2019 successfully completed

From 6th to 24th of May 2019, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) and the War Studies University (WSU) jointly organised and conducted the Combined Joint Staff Exercise Joint Resolve 2019 in Warsaw, Poland.

The exercise was delivered in two phases – planning and execution. During the execution phase, the students implemented plans and solutions they had developed in the planning phase. This phase concentrated on the preparing the execution of a counter-attack. The emphasis was placed on the integration and synchronisation of the individual services as joint force components, targeting, strategic communication and cyber security. By filling the key positions required within an operational level staff, the students were able to demonstrate their leadership skills and effective staff work principles. A computer assisted simulation system was used to support learning during the execution phase.

The last day of the exercise involved final briefings and discussions on the current and future execution of the exercise. The day also included another VIP visit. Mr Tomasz Szatkowski, Deputy Minister - Under-Secretary of State of the Polish Ministry of National Defence, visited the exercise site and received an overview of the Joint Resolve 2019 during the Commander's Update Brief. The next exercise Joint Resolve is scheduled to take place in 2020.

In total, more than 250 participants from 19 countries were involved in the exercise, including staff and students of BALTDEFCOL and WSU, Senior Mentors and external Subject Matter Experts.

BALTDEFCOL would like to express our immense gratitude to all the individuals, organisations and institutions for their support and contribution. It is the high level of cooperation and collaboration of all participating nations that helps to ensure that the set training objectives are met.
