Today, on 14th December 2017, Baltic Defence College had an honour to host General Petr Pavel who is serving as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. He was accompanied by a delegation from Estonian Defence Forces, led by Brigadier General Martin Herem, Chief of Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces.
General Pavel and his company were welcomed by the Commandant of the BALTDEFCOL, Major General Andis Dilāns, and members of the College Management Group. After signing our guestbook, GEN Pavel addressed BALTDEFCOL faculty and students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2017/2018. His lecture “NATO today and tomorrow” recognized the importance of professional education for future leaders. General named adaptation, coherence, unity and cohesion as key words for NATO in current and future environment to face challenges. Lecture was followed by active questions and answers session.
Official programme was concluded with detailed presentation on BALTDEFCOL’s history, its vision, mission, academic activities and main lines of effort.
From July 2012 to May 2015 General Petr Pavel served as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, the highest ranking officer in the Czech Army and the principal military adviser to the Czech Government. He was appointed Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 26 June 2015.
