Information warfare: Old or new?

Dr. Asta Maskaliunaite introducing Dr. Nerijus Maliukevicius

On 24th November, the Baltic Defence College hosted a roundtable seminar on information warfare, welcoming one of the leading regional experts on the topic Dr. Nerijus Maliukevicius from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at the University of Vilnius. The roundtable was attended by students from the Joint Command and General Staff Course and members of the college’s faculty.

Students discussing ‘information warfare’ with the presenter

‘Information warfare’ is a topical issue for the Baltic states, especially in light of the Ukraine crisis; therefore, this roundtable created an opportunity for the college to discuss more in depth the questions related to the ways of influencing public opinion and creating favourable or unfavourable images of a country, organisation or person. The discussion centred much on the possibilities of the Baltic states to counter such manipulations of their populations, particularly, but not limited to their minority populations.
