On 24th of October 2018, students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2018-2019 along with faculty members of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) participated in a charity run in the vicinity of Tartu Anne Canal named "In Memoriam". The event’s purpose was to pay respect to the fallen soldiers of Lithuania and foreign soldiers deployed in Lithuania who had accidently lost their lives while being on active duty.
The run of 3 to 4 km around the canal was attended by more than forty BALTDEFCOL students, faculty members and their families coming from various nations including Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Ukraine and the United States. After completing the run, participants were invited to enjoy a cup of hot tea and cookies on the side of the canal.
The original charity and support run “In Memoriam” takes place in Lithuania and is organised by the Lithuanian Military Families’ Women Society "Birutietės" for the fourth time this year. In 2016 and 2017 the event was also greatly supported by officers serving abroad who organised “In Memoriam” run at their stations in Afghanistan, Belgium, Estonia, Ukraine and the USA.
