On 3rd-4th of October, Commandant of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) Major General Andis Dilāns hosted the Nordic-Baltic Conference of Commandants 2018. This year, the conference took place in Narva, Estonia.
During the conference, RADM Henrik Ryberg, Commandant of the Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC), MG Jari Kallio, Rector of the Finnish National Defence University (FNDU), CAPT (N) Lars Arne Aulie, Acting Deputy Commandant of the Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC) and Dr Romulo Enmark, Commandant/Vice-Chancellor of the Swedish Defence University (SEDU) presented current developments within the military education in the respective countries.
This yearly event is an important forum for sharing experiences related to professional military education and for discussing ongoing changes leading to improved effectiveness in educating commanders, staff officers and civil servants. It helps to improve mutual awareness related to educational approaches and offers an opportunity to share best practices.
During the discussions, mutual assistance related to research and academic events was recognized as an important topic leading to the consideration of future contribution to conferences and seminars. Among other topics, the regional security was a matter of common interest. The participants shared their perceptions of developments in that important domain and its impact on revision of curricula and delivering up-to-date topics reflecting current and future trends and changes.
