On 13 January 2020, the Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC) and the Civil Servants’ Course (CSC) started at the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).
HCSC has been conducted since 2004 and this will be the 16th course with 21 participants coming from 13 countries, representing Australia, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
On 13. January additionally to the Higher Command Studies Course, the Civil Servants' Course (CSC) also began. This year the Baltic Defence College is glad to welcome 8 students from the three Baltic states to the course!
The CSC has been conducted since 2001 to educate civil servants on the wide range of challenges related to the defence institutions and policies. The aim of the CSC is to enable civil servants from security and defence related governmental organisations to contribute to the development and implementation of security and defence policies. The course provides unique networking opportunities, facilitates civil-military interaction and interagency cooperation, thus enhancing students' skills and readiness for their future assignments in national and international positions.
For the opening ceremony and the first day of the two courses, the Former Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum GEN (ret) Hans-Lothar Domröse was invited as a keynote speaker to address courses, to share his extensive military experience and provide a lecture on NATO in the Era of Global Disruption.
HCSC is a senior-level course of five-month duration providing education for senior officers and civilian officials on a strategic level and leadership issues. It consists of six modules and includes two international study trips. Totally 228 graduates from NATO, EU and partner countries, have graduated from HCSC so far.
