Participation in the 10th Anniversary Conference of the International Society of Military Sciences 

On 17th-19th of October, Commandant of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) MG Andis Dilāns accompanied by Dean Dr. hab. Zdzislaw Sliwa participated in the Conference of the International Society of Military Sciences (ISMS) 2018 “Military Sciences and Future Security Challenges”, which marked the 10th Anniversary of the ISMS. The Conference was organized by Polish War Studies University in Warsaw and was headed by Professor Ryszard Szpyra, the President of the ISMS.

During the ISMS Council meeting the Commandants/Rectors of the member organisations of Professional Military Education approved the new Charter of the Society and adopted the Communique related to the anniversary. The discussion was focused on the future of the organization, the role and significance of conferences, the project of “Handbook of Military Sciences” and upgraded website allowing broader reach of ISMS activities.

      

MG Dilāns was a speaker during a panel discussion related to the role of military sciences presenting BALTDEFCOL's perspective of its role as a contributor to the security in the Baltic region and beyond. He also presented the role of military sciences as important constituent of education for the future military and civilian leaders.

 

During the conference some 30 discussion panels were organized within 9 working groups. Mr. Art Johanson, the lecturer of the BALTDEFCOL, was chairperson for the working group 2 - 'Military History'. The conference was concluded by a panel discussion about the future of ISMS.
