Roundtable on ’Brexit’ or ’Bremain’
On 9th June 2016 the Baltic Defence College hosted a Roundtable Seminar discussing the United Kingdom’s upcoming referendum on 23rd June 2016 on whether to remain inside (’Bremain’) or leave (’Brexit’) the European Union. The Chairman of European Union Affairs Committee in the Estonian Parliament, Mr. Kalle Palling MP, participated as a speaker, explaining Estonia’s position on the British decision. Mr. James Rogers, Acting Dean of the Baltic Defence College, and Dr. Ashley Roden-Bow, Acting Director of the Department of Leadership, also joined the panel with the first explaining the geostrategic background and implications of United Kingdom’s potential choice and the latter the internal political issues surrounding the referendum.
This Roundtable Seminar is the latest in a line of similar events hosted by the Baltic Defence College to explore and analyse various topical issues. Almost twenty such events have been hosted since late 2012.
After the Roundtable, Mr Kalle Palling and BALTDEFCOL Commandant Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras met for the brief discussion about the main conclusions of the roundtable and possible future cooperation.
