Roundtable Seminar: 'Lithuania and the "Wider Baltic"'

On 5th March the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the pleasure to welcome Dr. Vaidotas Urbelis, the Director of Department of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation of Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, who visited the College to discuss Lithuania's position and role in the Wider Baltic region.

The Seminar was also attended by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant Maj. Gen. Vitalijus Vaikšnoras, as well as several members of College's military and academic staff. Moreover, several students from the Joint Command and General Staff Course and Civil Servants' Course concerned with Baltic-Nordic affairs participated to listen the perspectives of the high level guest on the strategic changes that are likely to afflict the Wider Baltic region in the years ahead, and to ask questions relating to their research papers.

The event was a glowing success – participants engaged with Dr. Urbelis for one and a half hours to invoke his insights on the Wider Baltic. Future seminars are planned, with an outlook to inviting other officials from other Baltic States’ foreign and defence ministries.
