The Baltic Defence College has introduced a Visiting Senior Mentor Program for the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) 2007 – 2008. As a part of this program, a Visiting Senior Mentor co-ordination meeting was held at the College on September 17 and 18. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the College to the Visiting Senior Mentors and to discuss their role during the JCGSC. It was also an excellent opportunity for both the College and the Visiting Senior Mentors to get to know each other. The Visiting Senior Mentors who participated in the meetings were: Gen (R) Joachim Spiering (German Army) LtGen (R) Ebbe Rosgaard (Danish Air Force) LtGen (R) Jan Scharling (Danish Army) LtGen (R) Friedrich Riechmann (German Army) Col (R) Stephen Appleton (Canadian Forces) The Visiting Senior Mentors are representing extensive experience from both their national service, from the international community, as well as from important commands and positions within the NATO organization. They will be acting as mentors, motivators, and role models during the theoretical part of the joint operational level teaching and during the planning exercises taking place during the JCGSC. The Visiting Senior Mentors will, without doubt, increase the outcome of the JCGSC for the students and the development of the course at the College.
