The Opening Ceremony of the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2022/2023

On 15th August, on the Polish Armed Forces Day, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) welcomed the students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) 2022/2023.
 
This academic year is a special one marking another milestone in college history. On 13th July 2022, BALTDEFCOL received a certificate signed by the Deputy Chief of Staff Joint Force Development of the NATO Allied Command of Transformation (ACT) granting the BALTDEFCOL unconditional institutional accreditation status. So, this year 66 students from 13 nations can say, that they started their educational journey at the BALTDEFCOL, the NATO accredited Training and Education facility.
Within his Opening Remarks, Brigadier General Ilmar Tamm, the Commandant of the BALTDEFCOL greeted the students by encouraging them to follow the slogan of Tartu - City of Good Thoughts. He recommended sharing good thoughts, knowledge, and experiences with others as it is common in Tartu.

Commandant highlighted a few keywords that he believes should accompany the students during the next 10 months. “BALTDEFCOL is unique, professional and we shape the future leaders”, he stated and added “but so are you, unique. Share this uniqueness, and share the uniqueness of your nation, your forces peculiarity. You all are professionals on your field, show that and share your experiences”, he continued and urged students to think forward and set some goals to themselves by stating that “actually you are shaping your own future”.

The Commandant stressed the significance of team spirit and the importance of respecting each other. As he has always emphasized there is something important that students can take from the college education period, those are lifelong personal connections.
 
The Official Ceremony ended with a small reception dedicated to BALTDEFCOL's unconditional Accreditation by NATO ACT.
The JCGSC is BALTDEFCOL’s oldest course providing Professional Military Education at the operational level to prepare commanders and general staff officers and selected civil servants for joint, interagency, and multinational environments to meet the complex security challenges from Baltic and Euro-Atlantic perspectives.
