The roundtable seminar with Col. (ret.) Dr. Parker

On 21th November, the Baltic Defence College hosted a roundtable seminar titled, “America and NATO: Alliance or ‘Amerexi’?” delivered by Col. (ret.) Dr. Charles ‘Chuck’ Parker. Dr. Parker is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for the Study of Strategy and Politics in Washington and a contributor to the International Solutions Group. He has served in a variety of command and staff positions in Europe, Vietnam, Korea, and the United States. Additionally, he was a member of NATO’s international staff from 1996 until 2012. Dr. Parker earned a MA in Russian Studies and a PhD in History from Georgetown University. He is the author of the book: Vietnam: Strategy for a Stalemate.

The discussion was moderated by the Dean, Col. (ret.) Dr. Zdzislaw Sliwa and Col Mark Hollis, the Director if the JCGSC. The focus of the discussion was on the latest political developments for Euro-Atlantic security specifically on the Baltic region. Dr. Parker provided his perception on the current threats and probability of escalation in Europe and beyond Europe.

Dr. Parker shared his experiences related to working in NATO military and civilian staffs in respect to decision-making and operational planning. The roundtable was attended by students from the Joint Command and General Staff Course and members of the college’s faculty.
