The visit of Estonian National Defence Committee

Estonian National Defence Committee visited Baltic Defence College on 18 October 2011. The aim of the visit was for the committee to familiarise themselves with the College, its mission, responsibilities and activities. During a 45 minute meeting, Brigadier General Meelis Kiili briefed the Committee shortly about BALTDEFCOL history and its place in military education system.

Main focus of the brief was to introduceto the Committee the challenges that BALTDEFCOL faces as an international institution in Estonia. „Baltic Defence College is a unique example of successful military cooperation between many countries. Estonia, as host nation, must ensure it remains that way. To accomplish this, we must make sure that BALTDEFCOL is, and will remain, an attractive educational and working environment supported by strong municipality which is family friendly and provides social security”, said Brigadier General Meelis Kiili.

Discussions involved exploring possible ways in which government can influence these areas by adjusting legislation and cooperating with local municipality. This visit was a good forum for communicating issues, exchanging ideas and increasing mutual understanding.
