US Diplomat visits Baltic Defence College

On Tuesday January 25 Mr. Robert Gilchrist, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy to Estonia paid a visit to the Baltic Defence College. He was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Williams in his capacity as the Chief of Defence Cooperation to Estonia and Ms Jane Susi, Embassy Cultural Assistant.

The United States has been a supporting nation of the Baltic Defence College since its founding in 1999 and there are several Americans currently serving on the College faculty as well as one student attending the Joint Command and General Staff Course. Mr. Gilchrist, who is new to the mission to Estonia, had lunch with the Baltic Defence College’s Commandant, Brigadier General Meelis Kiili and the American members of the Baltic Defence College. It was an opportunity for Mr. Gilchrist to familiarize himself with one of the key institutions of US/Baltic States defense cooperation with a look to even closer future cooperation.

That afternoon Mr. Gilchrist also met with the mayor of Tartu and leaders of Tartu University.
