Visit by Colonel Gintaras Bagdonas, Director of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence

On 29th of January, Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted Colonel Gintaras Bagdonas, Director of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (ENSEC COE) and faculty members of the Centre.

During his visit, COL Bagdonas gave a lecture on “NATO ENSEC COE: Introduction and Activities” to BALTDEFCOL’s faculty and students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2017/2018. He provided an overview of the ENSEC COE mission, structure and areas of expertise highlighting research and educational activities within energy security domain.

Afterwards, COL Bagdonas received a thorough overview of BALTDEFCOL and participated in a discussion on NATO accreditation. During the discussion, a few areas of possible cooperation between BALTDECOL and ENSEC COE were recognized as of common interest to further develop research projects and to deliver quality education within courses provided to NATO members and partner nations.

NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence was created on 10th of July and accredited on 12th of October 2012. Lithuania is the largest contributor to the Centre and is the Framework Nation filling in the positions of a Director, experts and administrative staff. It is a widely recognized international military organization with the aim of providing qualified and appropriate expert advice on questions related to operational energy security.
