On the 13th of November 2017, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the honour to host H.E. Mr. Raimonds Jansons, the Ambassador of Latvia to Estonia on his first visit to BALTDEFCOL.
The Ambassador was welcomed by the leadership of BALTDEFCOL and during the visit had a possibility to get acquainted with facilities and to receive an overview of the College, its vision and aims, courses and other academic activities, a special attention being turned to the importance of Latvia’s contribution and participation in the College. Since 1999, the BALTDEFCOL has had 261 graduates from Latvia.
As on the 11th of November the Latvians celebrated the Lāčplēsis or Armed Forces Day, the Ambassador along with the College Latvian contingent and members of Tartu Latvian Society visited the Uus-Jaani Cemetery in Tartu to commemorate Latvian riflemen and refugees, who died in Estonia during World War I, and were buried there. For many years the commemoration service and taking care of the cemetery has turned into a traditional event for the Latvian contingent of BALTDEFCOL.
