On 27th March, the Baltic Defence College had an honour to host LTG Jennie Carignan, the Chief of Professional Conduct and Culture of Canadian Armed Forces. LTG Carignan and her delegation was accompanied by Colonel Earl S. Vandahl, Canadian Defence Attaché to Baltic States.
The Canadian delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Commandant/ Chief of Staff Colonel Dietmar Hartung and the members of College Management Group and Faculty. The visit started with the guestbook signing and BALTDEFCOL presentation where College’s main activities – courses and academic events were introduced.
As it is a good practice at BALTDEFCOL for guests to have a short meeting with the respective students to discuss national issues, a student from Canada met with the General.
Visit ended with the lecture to the Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC) on Gender in the Strategic Leadership Environment. During the brief LTG Carignan expressed her perception with respect to “gender as mental construct”.
She also shared her personal experiences from military service about importance of adaptive application of leadership approach within military as hierarchical system. Historical and contemporary remarks were valuable contribution to the HCSC education.
