On 6th of March, Lieutenant General Martin Schelleis, the Chief of German Joint Support Service Command paid a visit to the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). LTG Schelleis was welcomed by the Commandant of the BALTDEFCOL, Major General Andis Dilāns accompanied by the members of the College Management Group.
The visit started with an office call with MG Dilāns. It was followed by a briefing providing an overview of the BALTDEFCOL’s history, mission, current activities and future developments. The follow-on discussion focused on the requirements toward professional military education and NATO presence in the Baltic region. During the discussion, LTG Schelleis mentioned that education is important for the better integration of the whole Baltic region and beyond. German Joint Support Service Command’s contribution to the Baltic Defence College was also discussed.
Afterwards, BALTDEFCOL’s faculty and students of the Higher Command Studies Course 2018 and the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2017/2018 had an opportunity to listen to a lecture “Joint support service command: Mission-tasks-organisation-multinational perspectives (focus)” given by LTG Schelleis. The lecture was followed by an active questions and answers session.
