On 21st of February 2019, Mr Jānis Garisons, State Secretary of Ministry of Defence of Latvia visited the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).
After receiving a presentation on BALTDEFCOL’s current activities and future developments, Mr Garisons engaged in discussions with the College leadership. He was especially interested in the development of BALTDEFCOL courses to meet evolving security environment and expectations of the Baltic countries. Mr Garisons also highlighted the importance of Staff Rides as a constituent of education in contribution to extending the students' knowledge as military history and geography are drawing many lessons to be utilized by future military and civilian leaders.
In the afternoon, Mr Garisons delivered a lecture “Insights on Defence Management” to the students of Joint Command and General Staff Course 2018/2019 and Civil Servants’ Course 2019. The topic of the lecture provided the students and faculty practical insights related to the ongoing educational module: Defence Planning and Management.
In grateful recognition of significant academic contribution to the Baltic Defence College Courses and selfless support to the Baltic Defence College, Mr Garisons was granted the recognition of Honorary Fellow of the College. Mr Garisons has been closely linked with BALTDEFCOL since 2008 and has contributed to all of its courses and majority of academic conferences and seminars over the years.
Mr Garisons’ visit to BALTDEFCOL will continue with his participation in the History Book Launch held on 22nd of February in the light of BALTDEFCOL 20th anniversary celebrations.
