On 8 May 2024, a group of National Liaison Representatives (NLRs) and Partnership for Peace National Liaison Representatives (PNLRs) to the Headquarters Allied Commander Transformation (ACT) of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) visited the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) as part of their Baltic tour.
The group was welcomed by the BALTDEFCOL Col (ret) Dr (hab) Zdzisław Śliwa, followed by briefings from CAPT (N) (ret) William Combes on "Military Innovation and Digital Transformation," and Dr Viljar Veebel on "Baltic options: Keeping believing in credible NATO deterrence or switching to the development of total defence?"
The visit aimed to gain insights into the Baltic nations' security and military concepts. Given their geographical location at the eastern edge of the NATO alliance, the Baltic states hold significant strategic importance within NATO. The visit sought to recognise and understand the security challenges faced by these nations, especially considering the dynamics across the Baltic Sea region. This understanding is crucial for ensuring effective defence strategies and cooperation within NATO.
