On the 3rd of May, the leadership and staff of NATO Force Integration Units (NFIU) Estonia paid a visit to the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) as part of regional tour to selected military and civilian entities.
The NFIU Estonia delegation consisted of Commander CAPT (N) Peeter Ivask, Deputy Commander Wg CDR Michael Gallagher, Head of J3/5/7 Branch LTC Tarmo Sütt, and 24 other members. Among participants, there were five former students of Joint Command and General Staff Course, who were very interested in the evolution of the College and educational programs. The Commander, CAPT (N) Peeter Ivask currently participating in BALTDEFCOL’s Higher Command Studies Course.
The delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Commandant/ Chief of Staff COL Dietmar Hartung, the Dean COL (ret) Dr hab. Zdzislaw Sliwa, COL Dzintars Roga, Director of Department of Military Studies and his replacement from August 2023 LTC Toomas Möls.
The main aim behind the visit was to get familiar with the area of responsibilities of both organizations and seek cooperation opportunities. COL Hartung gave an overview of the College’s main tasks and academic portfolio. He also introduced our main academic events, Combined Staff Joint Exercise Joint Resolve, and cooperation with other institutions. LTC Sütt provided brief overview of NFIU focusing on its specific role as NATO institution in the Estonia and regional cooperation.
After the presentations, further cooperation was discussed as there are many areas of common interest and both organization could supplement each other based of possessed expertise and knowledge. Specific areas of cooperation have already been recognized and the further discussion will establish the framework of such activities.
