Visit by President of Republic of Latvia
On 15th of June 2010 the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the honor to welcome the President of the Republic of Latvia H.E. Mr Valdis Zatlers. The Latvian delegation of 14 members was also accompanied by Col Andris Kalninš.
The President was welcomed at the entrance of the BALTDEFCOL by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant Brigadier General Gundars Abols (LVA A). The President had a meeting at the Commandant’s Office where after signing the BALTDEFCOL Guestbook had a briefing by Brigadier General Gundars Abols about the BALTDEFCOL, its courses and future challenges.
Afterwards H.E. Mr Valdis Zatlers delivered a lecture on “Latvian Security in the View of a Changing Security Environment” which was addressed to the students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) 2009/2010, Civil Servants Course 2010, and the Directing Staff of the BALTDEFCOL. The lecture culminated with an active round of questions and answers where the audience used the opportunity to engage the distinguished speaker in an open discussion.
The lecture was followed by a group photo with the Latvian Directing Staff members and Latvian students of the JCGSC 2009/2010.
The program was followed by a lunch hosted by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant. The Latvian delegation and the host were joined at the lunch by the Latvian Directing Staff members and Latvian students of the JCGSC 2009/2010.
The official visit of the Latvian President to the BALTDEFCOL ended with a gift exchange.
