On 14th of November 2018, Professor Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu (UT) paid his first official visit to the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). He was welcomed by Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, Major General Andis Dilāns and the College Management Group members. The aim of the visit was to gain insight into College’s mission and activities, discuss areas of future cooperation and exchange knowledge in specific areas of expertise.

The visit started with an office call with MG Dilāns. It was followed by an in-depth briefing about BALTDEFCOL, its academic activities and ongoing developments. The visit was a valuable opportunity for an exchange of perspectives between BALTDEFCOL and UT, facilitating lively discussion on the existing and future cooperation between the two academic institutions. This includes exchange of Subject Matter Experts, support in quality assurance, traineeship opportunities, organisation and participation in conferences and other educational events.

Professor Asser began his tenure as the Rector of the University of Tartu on 1st of August 2018 after being elected by the electoral council.
