Visit by Rear Admiral Mark C. Montgomery

On 27 March 2012, the Baltic Defence College had the pleasure to welcome the U.S. European Command’s Deputy Director J5, RADM Mark C. Montgomery.

From 1988 to 1998, the Admiral served in several shipboard assignments and after selection as a White House fellow, RADM Montgomery was assigned to the National Security Council. From 2001 to 2009, the Admiral returned to sea, and his most recent position was the Head of the Strategy Branch in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

During his visit, RADM Montgomery met with the Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, observed the on-going Exercise Collaborative Effort II, and addressed the BALTDEFCOL students and staff. His comments were focused on two themes: first, he discussed his views on the United States’ role in the future security environment and the critical role of partnerships in this context; and second, the Admiral encouraged the BALTDEFCOL audience to embrace a spirit of continuous professional and intellectual development.
