On 9th of March, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted a visit by Lieutenant General Anatolii Syrotenko, the Commandant of the National Defence University of Ukraine as well as Major General Sergeii Salkutsan, the Dean and Colonel Vasyl Shkoliarenko, Chief of Branch - Deputy Commandant of Education and Research Centre for International Peacekeeping. The delegation was accompanied by Colonel Oleksandr Koberskyi, Defence Attaché of Ukraine to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The guests were welcomed by the Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, Major General Andis Dilāns and members of the College Management Group.
The aim of the visit was to operationalize areas of cooperation between the two institutions and exchange experiences and best practices in the domain of professional military education. The delegation received a briefing on BALTDEFCOL’s history, mission, current activities and future developments. Afterwards, the two institutions exchanged experiences in the field of professional military education and discussed possible opportunities for future cooperation.
During their visit, the guests also attended the Baltic Defence College’s Fourth Annual Conference on Russia: “Russia in 2018: Challenges and Responses”. COL Shkoliarenko was one of the conference speakers for the session: “Expected Russian Escalation Pattern for Baltic States after Georgian and Ukrainian experience” being a visible outcome of common interest in the security domain.
