Visit of Latvian Minister of Education and Science
On Monday, 20 September the BALTDEFCOL had the honor to welcome the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia H.E. Ms Tatjana Koke. The Minister, accompanied by Deputy Director of Policy Co-ordination Department and Head of Lifelong Learning Division of Ministry of Education and Science Mr Dmitrijs Kulšs, welcomed at the foyer of the College by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant BG Gundars Abols.
Afterwards H.E. Ms Tatjana Koke delivered a lecture on “Wider Security-Some Challenges” to the students of the Joint Command and General Staff Course 2010/2011, Higher Command Studies Course 2010, and to the BALTDEFCOL.
The lecture was followed by a short meeting at the Commandant’s Office where Commandant gave an overview of the BALTDEFCOL development and future challenges.
The program continued with a visit to the Miina Härma Gymnasium with the aim of introducing the study opportunities of the children of the BALTDEFCOL Latvian Directing Staff members and students. H.E. Ms Koke had a round table discussion with the Miina Härma Gymnasium´s Senior Management Team consisting of Principal Ms Ene Tannberg, IB Coordinator Ms Irja Toots, Educational Manager Ms Mare Räis and Development Manager Ms Tiia Lepik, and later a visit to one of the classes attended by Latvian children.
The visit to Tartu was culminated with a lunch hosted by BG Gundars Abols in the honor of H.E. Ms Koke and attended also by Estonian Minister of Education and Science Mr Tõnis Lukas and Principal of Miina Härma Gymnasium Ms Ene Tannberg.
