Visit of Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, Commander Multinational Corps Northeast

On 17th February, the Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart visited BALTDEFCOL in the framework of his Area of Operations Familiarization Tour to Estonia.

Commander MNC NE was accompanied by the Commander of Multinational Division North (MND N) Major General Flemming Mathiasen.

The guests were welcomed by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant Brigadier General Ilmar Tamm, members of the BALTDEFCOL Management Group, and Commandant of the Estonian Military Academy Colonel Vahur Karus.

As it was the first visit of LTG von Sandrart to the BALTDEFCOL then the meeting with the BALTDEFCOL Leadership concentrated mainly on introduction to the College, with emphasis on its tasks, and educational and academic activities. Specific focus was on the courses and on ongoing developments to deliver quality military education to meet the enduring defence and security needs of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and partner nations.
The visit continued by a stop at the Simulation Centre of the Estonian Military Academy where BALTDEFCOL Lecturer LTC (ret) Albertas Kondrotas, gave a short introduction to the Operational Level Planning Module of the Joint Command and General Staff Course, and Civil Servants Course. The aim of the module is to prepare course participants to contribute to NATO’s operational level planning process, either as an operational level or as functional area planner, while serving within a joint operational level headquarters, applying the principles of the Comprehensive Operations Planning Directive (COPD) to investigate components of Operational Planning Process.

The visit culminated with a lecture by LTG von Sandrart to JCGSC 2021-2022, CSC 2022, and HCSC 2022 on the Threat Analysis 360o, and discussed the characteristics of land operations in the 21st century and the evolution of MNC NE as NATO Force Structure regional Land Component Command.
