Visit of the Baltic Naval Intermediate Command and Staff Course

Students of the Baltic Naval Intermediate Command and Staff Course (NICSC) from the Latvian National Defence Academy visited the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) on Tuesday, 3 June 2014. The visit to college provided information on the next level of NICSC students’ professional education and insight on overall officer development in the Baltic countries.

 

The NICSC students were welcomed by the BALTDEFCOL Commandant Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras. The programme at the College continued with briefing presented by the Deputy Commandant and Chief of Staff, COL Ingemar Gustafsson on the structure of the College. Lieutenant Commander Taavi Urb from the Estonian Naval Defence College made a presentation on the current situation of basic naval officer education in Estonia.

BALTDEFCOL two naval officers from the current Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) presented their view about the student life and activities in the college. The NICSC also received a tour of BALTDEFCOL faculties and visited the Estonian National Defence College Museum.

The NICSC is a tri-national course for Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian for naval staff officers. The course, held at the Latvian National Defence Academy, is taught in English, it is the highest level component education before possibility to attend the JCGSC at the BALTDEFCOL or a foreign staff college.
