Major General Andis Dilāns, Commandant of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), accompanied by Dean Dr hab. Zdzislaw Sliwa visited the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences on 15th of March and discussed opportunities of future cooperation with the Rector Dr Gatis Krūmiņš and University management. Among other topics, the BALTDEFCOL delegation was presented an overview of the current Master and PhD degree programs along with the University Strategy 2016 – 2020. MG Dilāns presented the College courses and research activities, including major conferences as an opportunity for the University faculty's participation.

Within the discussion, both organisations recognised areas of expertise suitable for future cooperation, especially in the field of cyber security and strategic communications. Dr Krūmiņš also introduced the Vidzeme University modern infrastructure including IT laboratory.
The Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, located in Valmiera, was founded in 1996 and in 2001 acquired the status of a state university. In 2002, it was accredited for an indefinite period by Latvian Ministry of Education and Science.
