Workshop on European Security Issues and Cyber Defence

 

On 11-12 June the Baltic Defence College hosted an international academic workshop as part of the Joint Staff Course. This is the last major academic activity of the year.

 

The Workshop on European Security and Cyber Defence included presentations from academics from Poland, the Czech Republic, Canada, the US, Estonia and Finland. Partner instiotutions such as the Polish National Defence University and Finnish National Defence University and the Royal Military College of Canada were all represented. The European security discussions ranged from presentations on European demographics and the relevance for future security, to the future of air policing in the Baltic States.

The second day of the workshop (June 12) focused on cyber defense issues and included presentations from members of the Cyber Center of Excellence in Tallinn, the Finnish National Defence University, and from the NATO Joint Warfare Center.

The workshop was attended bny Baltic Defence Collge students of the Joint course and the Civil Servants’ Course, who were joined by 18 students of the L’Ecole de Guerre (French Armed Forces Staff College) who are visiting Tartu. A group of graduate students from the MA in cyber security program at Tartu University also attended. this is one of several academic events conducted by the Baltic Defence College throughout the year that allows participation by other academic institutions.
