On 16 April 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) hosted the Chiefs of Defence from all three Baltic countries. This significant event marked a milestone in regional military cooperation and provided an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and collaboration among the top military leaders of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
The visit was graced by the presence of GEN Raimundas Vaikšnoras, Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, MG Andrus Merilo, Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, and MG Kaspars Pudāns, Commander of Latvian National Armed Forces.
The esteemed guests were warmly welcomed by the Commandant of the BALTDEFCOL, Brigadier General Alvydas Šiuparis. Brigadier General Šiuparis expressed his gratitude for the visit and emphasised the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support among the Baltic states in ensuring regional security and stability.
One of the highlights of the visit was the roundtable discussion titled “Key Challenges in Implementing a Defence Policy”. This insightful panel was joined by the Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC) participants, the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) participants, and the BALTDEFCOL Faculty. The discussion provided a platform for an in-depth exchange of ideas and perspectives on the current and future challenges in defence policy implementation.
During their visit, the Chiefs of Defence also took the time to meet with their respective contingents at the BALTDEFCOL. These meetings were an excellent opportunity for the Chiefs to engage directly with the students, discuss ongoing projects, and provide guidance and encouragement.
The visit of the Chiefs of Defence of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to the BALTDEFCOL was highly successful. It highlighted the strong ties and collaborative spirit among the Baltic states, emphasising the critical role of the BALTDEFCOL in promoting regional military cooperation and professional development.
