Latvian Celebration of Independence Day at the Baltic Defence College

On November 14, the Latvian contingent at the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) celebrated Latvia’s most significant national holiday—Independence Day. The celebration of the 106th Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia was opened by the Latvian Senior National Representative, Colonel Ivo Mūrmanis, who highlighted the importance of the commemorative events held from November 11 to 18, marking key moments in Latvia’s history and independence.

Following his remarks, H.E. Mrs Kristīne Našeniece, the Ambassador of Latvia to Estonia, congratulated all Latvians on this special occasion and encouraged our societies of the Baltic nations to be strong and cohesive.
As a society, we must be strong and cohesive, prepared for changes that may come as suddenly as the first snowfall—changes we cannot afford to face unprepared. We need to be firmly anchored in European values, united and resilient.
Brigadier General Alvydas Šiuparis, the Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, also conveyed his best wishes. He spoke about the meaning and the cost of independence, emphasizing the sacrifices made to achieve and preserve it.
This is something we must never forget. Sadly, it requires sacrifices even today, and freedom is what we must preserve and honour. This is what we need to always remember—the price of our freedom.
The event highlighted the strong diplomatic and military bonds between Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.

Saules mūžu Latvijai!
