MG Jean-Pierre Fagué Visits Baltic Defence College During Estonian Tour

On May 7, 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the distinct honour of welcoming Major General Jean-Pierre Fagué, Commanding General of the 1st French Division (CG 1 FRA DIV), during his tour of Estonia. The visit was marked by a series of significant events that underscored the strong ties between the BALTDEFCOL and the French military.

Upon his arrival, MG Jean-Pierre Fagué was warmly received by BALTDEFCOL Commandant Brigadier General Alvydas Šiuparis and had an office call where they discussed various topics of mutual interest, including the strategic importance of Franco-Baltic military cooperation and the ongoing efforts to enhance defence capabilities in the region. This meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to exchange insights and strengthen the collaborative framework between their respective commands.

The highlight of MG Fagué's visit was his lecture to the Higher Command Studies Course (HCSC) 2025. Titled "French Division Command for Europe and How to Fight for a Division," the lecture provided invaluable insights into the operational and strategic aspects of commanding a division in the European theatre. The lecture was well-received by the HCSC participants, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from a seasoned and respected military leader.

Additionally, MG Fagué visited the Combined Joint Staff Exercise JOINT RESOLVE 2025, where he met with the Officer Directing the Exercise, Colonel Toomas Möls. This visit allowed MG Fagué to observe the exercise firsthand and discuss its objectives and outcomes with the directing staff.

During his visit, MG Fagué also had the opportunity to meet with the French student, Major Martin de Baglion de la Dufferie, who is a participant in the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) 2024-2025. This meeting highlighted the importance of international military education and the role of French officers in fostering strong ties with their Baltic counterparts.

MG Jean-Pierre Fagué's visit to the BALTDEFCOL was a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between the French and Baltic armed forces. The BALTDEFCOL  looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the 1st French Division and other international partners in the pursuit of excellence in military education and training.
