Ukrainian Delegation Visits BALTDEFCOL to Deepen Defence Education Ties


From 27–29 May 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the honour of hosting a delegation from the National Defence University of Ukraine’s Institute “Leadership School.” The visit underscored the growing cooperation between Ukrainian and Baltic defence education institutions and highlighted shared commitments to professional military education and strategic dialogue.

The delegation, which included representatives from the Institute and was accompanied by the Dean, COL (ret) Dr habil Zdzislaw Sliwa, LTC (ret) Riho Tammistu and Dr Tiia-Triin Truusa.

A key highlight of the first day was the office call with the Commandant of BALTDEFCOL, BG Alvydas Šiuparis, and a series of presentations at the City Hub, including an overview of the National Defence University of Ukraine and discussions on various educational methodologies. The delegation also explored BALTDEFCOL’s quality management system and met with Ukrainian students currently studying at the College.

The final day focused on innovation in military education, with presentations on the use of artificial intelligence in the exercise JOINT RESOLVE and AI in professional military education. The visit concluded with a tour of the College and a forward-looking discussion on future cooperation.
This visit reaffirmed the strong academic and professional bonds between BALTDEFCOL and Ukrainian defence institutions, and laid the groundwork for continued collaboration in support of regional security and educational excellence.
