Visit of Vienna School of International Studies to the Baltic Defence College

On 15 May 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) was delighted to welcome a delegation from the Vienna School of International Studies (Diplomatische Akademie Wien).

The visit commenced with a College Brief by Chief of Staff COL Jonathan Huxley and Dean Dr (hab) Zdzislaw Sliwa, who introduced the guests to BALTDEFCOL’s mission, academic programmes, and its pivotal role in regional security education.

Dr Daivis Petratis, lecturer of War and Conflict Studies, along with Mr George Spencer Terry, lecturer of Strategic Studies, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on Regional Security. They addressed key topics such as security dynamics in the Baltic region, NATO’s strategic posture, and the impact of Russia’s activities on European stability. These sessions fostered engaging discussions and an exchange of perspectives between the two institutions.

The Diplomatische Akademie Wien is dedicated to preparing students for international careers and leadership positions in international organisations, the EU, public service, and international business. The delegation, consisting of postgraduate students and faculty, engaged actively throughout the visit.

BALTDEFCOL values the opportunity to host the Vienna School of International Studies and looks forward to continuing this dialogue in support of international security and defence education.
