Dr. Augustine Meaher IV has been named the Baltic Defence College`s new Dean replacing Dr. James Corum who served as Dean of the Baltic Defence College in 2009 - 2014.
Dr. Meaher said: “It is a great honour to be selected as the Dean of the Baltic Defence College. I look forward to working with the Commandant and his faculty and the Baltic States in this new role.”
As Dean, Dr. Meaher will take a leading role in the planning and delivery of education by the Baltic Defence College in all its courses.
Dr. Meaher will also oversee the implementation of an improved college-wide quality control system that will ensure the highest academic standards are maintained by the Baltic Defence College in all its courses. He will refine the Baltic Defence College’s research strategy with a focus on the wider Baltic region. Dr Meaher will spearhead the improvement of college publications with an aim to improve the impact factor of all Baltic Defence College publications. A special journal issue on Professional Military Education is already being planned.
Dr. Meaher served as the Director of the Department of Political and Strategic Studies at the Baltic Defence College where he taught and supervised students of the Higher Command Studies Course and the Joint Command and General Staff Course and the Latvian National Defence Academy’s Masters programme. He also currently represents the Baltic Defence College on the Executive Academic Board of the European Security and Defence College and serves as the syndicate coordinator for the High Level Course.
Prior to coming to Tartu, Dr. Meaher held academic appointments in the United States and Australia. He has published a monograph and numerous articles.
