BALTDEFCOL Welcomes New Participants to JCGSC and CSC 2025/2026

On 11 August 2025, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) proudly commenced the academic year for two of its flagship professional military education programmes: the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC) and the Civil Servants Course (CSC).

This year, 76 officers from 10 different countries are participating in the courses, reflecting the BALTDEFCOL’s strong multinational character and commitment to regional cooperation. Notably, the 2025/2026 academic year also marks a milestone with a record number of 11 female participants, highlighting progress in diversity and inclusion within the defence community.

The day began with the arrival and administrative in-processing of students, followed by a formal Opening Ceremony held in the BALTDEFCOL’s Main Hall. The event marked the beginning of a transformative journey for military professionals from across the Baltic region and beyond.

The ceremony was attended by BALTDEFCOL leadership, faculty, staff, and distinguished guests, including Mr Kaimo Kuusk, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Estonia, and BG Alvydas Šiuparis, Commandant of BALTDEFCOL. The programme featured the posting of the BALTDEFCOL colours, the BALTDEFCOL anthem, and opening remarks from BG Šiuparis and Mr Kuusk, who both emphasised the importance of regional cooperation, leadership development, and strategic thinking in today’s complex security environment.

“The Baltic Defence College stands as one of the most successful examples of Baltic regional cooperation. By educating and preparing military officers and defence-related civilians for senior roles, the BALTDEFCOL plays a vital role in strengthening our defence institutions. Education, supported by research, is a powerful tool for addressing regional security challenges and advancing NATO’s key strategic priorities,”  said BG Alvydas Šiuparis, Commandant of BALTDEFCOL.

Following the ceremony, course participants and guests gathered for group photos in front of the BATDEFCOL, capturing the start of a new academic chapter. The day continued with introductions to the BALTDEFCOL leadership, faculty, and Senior National Representatives (SNRs), as well as briefings on security, administration, and the structure of the in-processing week.

BALTDEFCOL extends a warm welcome to all new course participants and looks forward to supporting their development as future leaders in defence and security.
